Kanpur, U.P.: The Smart India Hackathon (Software) 2019 was inaugurated today by Hon’ble Minister of HRD, Shri Prakash Javadekar via live webcast across all the nodal centres of the hackathon, one of the biggest in the world.

Prof. Manindra Agarwal, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur was also present at the lamp lighting ceremony at the Institute, along with Commander Dr. Shishir Sahay, the AICTE appointed Nodal Head for SIH 2019.

In his live address to the students gathered for the inauguration ceremony, Shri Javadekar talked about the importance of this hackathon and about how beneficial this will be all participants. “This hackathon is a unique step towards fostering innovation amongst students. Only those countries in the world prosper which focus on innovation. The new India will find solutions for pressing societal problems and lead globally,” he said.

From the several themes which have been picked for this year’s hackathon, IIT Kanpur has been identified as the nodal centre for Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). The challenge will run for 36 hours with nearly 32 teams (with 8 participants each) competing to solve the problems floated by DIPP.

The following are some of the problem statements set for the participants by DIPP:

  • Developing a platform for start-ups to connect with officers from Central Ministries/Departments for mentorship support
  • Developing a market place for start-ups
